AI Is Already in Your Car - Here's How
Pete Cooper explains why he believes voice-driven AI chat is coming to cars and how it could change a drive. He walks through an example trip where the car finds an address, suggests a stop for a gift and re-routes on request.
Video summary
Pete Cooper believes AI chat is coming to cars, a view he says he shares with a colleague who works deep in the auto industry. In most advanced cars today, he says, you still navigate a screen or an application, as in a Tesla, where you tell it where you want to go and it maps the route.
He expects voice to change that, because you can prompt an AI chat to do things for you and it can act on them in the car. His example is a trip across town to see a friend. You say the friend's name, it offers an address, you confirm and it starts navigating. On the way you remember a birthday present, ask whether there is somewhere on the route to buy Belgian chocolates, and it finds a couple of options, one better but further away and one closer. You pick the closer one and tell it to re-route.
He sees this as hands-free and built into the whole journey, like having your own PA and chauffeur in one.

Is AI chat coming in cars? Well, I believe it is. And I was talking to a colleague of mine who is deep into the car industry, the auto industry, and we talked at this at length, and we both believe this is coming. Currently, if you step into most advanced cars, you are still navigating a screen or an application. Like in Tesla, you're telling it where you want to go, and it's mapping towards that. We believe this is all going to change because what's great about AI chat is you can talk to it with voice. You can you can prompt it to do things for you, and it can actually enact that in the car. So, let's take an example that you want to take a trip across town to see a friend of yours.
You say the name of the friend, Joe Smith. It prompts you with an address. You say yes, and it starts navigating. Now, as you're driving, you think, "Oh, well, actually, I got to get him a a birthday present, and he likes uh Belgian chocolates. " You talk to the chat, and you say, "Hey, on the route, is there somewhere that I could go and pick up some Belgian chocolates as a birthday gift? " It goes and looks. It finds the stores. Looks at the options. Maybe there's one or two options. One a little better, a bit further away versus one that's closer. You pick the closer one, and so you say re-navigate to that on the way.
So, you have this ability with AI to enhance your whole experience through AI chat, and all hands-free, and all nicely integrated into your whole journey, really making the experience that much better. And you just become like the guest who has your own PA and chauffeur in one. I think that's a really exciting future for AI chat in cars.
